This chapter answers whether MooseFS is the kind of system you need.
What MooseFS is gives the shortest description of the system: what it joins together, which part manages the file system and which parts store the data, and how an application reaches it.
Where MooseFS fits names the properties that make a workload belong on MooseFS. The companion page, where MooseFS does not fit, names the properties that rule a workload out, each with the rule of the system that causes it. Read both pages before you decide whether your workload belongs on MooseFS. Solutions describes a working deployment for each kind of workload.
Quick start lets you see MooseFS run before you plan anything. Quick start is a trial rather than a deployment. Deployment is the chapter that describes how to build a real cluster. Planning & Sizing calculates what to buy for that cluster.
History covers where the system came from, why there are two editions, and who develops it today. Editions & Licensing states what each edition includes and what a license permits.
Concepts defines every term that the rest of the documentation uses.
