Operations
Tasks you carry out on a cluster that already runs, sorted by the task you have rather than by the component that the task touches.
Using the file system covers the everyday work on
a mounted share: trash, snapshots, and the mfs* tools that need no
administrator rights. Access control covers who may
mount what and with which rights. Client and mount
tasks covers the administrator's work on the
mounts themselves and on the sessions they leave behind. Data placement
tasks describes how to use storage classes, labels,
and patterns to control where data is stored. Space management
covers reading and managing what the cluster holds. Disks and
Chunkservers covers the planned adding, draining,
and removing of both. Master Server
operations lists the tasks related to metadata
and, in PRO, the tasks that involve more than one Master Server. Addresses and
ports covers moving a running cluster to different
addresses and ports. Multi-site
operations covers clusters divided into
locations PRO (PRO Edition only). Block device operations covers block devices served by
mfsbdev.
Nothing in the cluster schedules any of this work for you. The cluster also keeps no record that a check was made. What to watch lists the readings to check on a running cluster and how often to check each of them. Your own operating and security policy decides who performs those checks, from which account, and what is kept as evidence afterwards. MooseFS does not set any of this.
Reference covers what an option is called and what value it accepts. How It Works covers why a mechanism behaves the way it does.
