About Windows Client

The Windows Client is a native MooseFS file system driver for Microsoft® Windows®. The client uses the native MooseFS protocol to communicate with the cluster.

The Windows Client is provided as a standalone installer from the official MooseFS website. Download the latest Windows Client installer and run it with administrator privileges.

Prerequisites

Before you install and use the Windows Client, you need the following:

  1. Windows Client installer: downloaded from the official MooseFS website.

  2. A valid MooseFS license: the Windows Client is sold with MooseFS PRO. The license comes with MooseFS PRO. Contact MooseFS Sales to get the appropriate license.

  3. A running MooseFS Master Server (either PRO or CE) configured with the path to the license file through the LICENSE_FILENAME configuration directive, for example:

    LICENSE_FILENAME = /etc/mfs/mfslicense.bin
    • MooseFS PRO Master Server: This directive is already in the default configuration file, commented out. If the license file is at exactly that path and file name, the configuration works without any changes. If you use a different path or file name, uncomment the line and change it to match.
    • MooseFS CE Master Server: This directive is not in the default configuration file at all. Add the directive manually.

    The client asks the Master Server for the license and checks it there. A CE Master Server serves the file the same way that a PRO Master Server does. The combination of a Windows Client and a CE Master Server works, but MooseFS does not offer it today, because the license is sold with MooseFS PRO.
